Christmas Decor!

Today Bruce and I decorated the house for our holiday party next weekend and it turned out so great! Bruce really knows how to work the garland! Seems like he's a pro!

My parents lent us the nice pillows and gave us little christmas nick knacks that really added to the overall look. Bruce's mom sent him back with the gold reindeer and I think they are super cute! My mom finally convinced me to take all my childhood ornaments and I'm so glad that I did. They look great on the tree. Bruce said next year he would bring back HIS childhood ornaments because by the time I told him about mine, his were on his parents tree :)

I think it's great that both of our parents have the same ornament tradition - where we get one every year to help start our own collections. We will for sure pass that tradition on to our children.

After a really busy week and weekend, we've been relaxing a bit today and Elvis is loving every moment of it - clearly. Elvis is getting more snuggly the older he gets. Maybe it was his near death experience that has brought him closer to us. He's never liked to get under the covers in the past, but now he really likes it. It's funny how much pets change over time. He's such a sweet boy. Happy Sunday everyone. WHO DAT?!

My boss gave me a gift card to Crate & Barrel that was left over from a commercial. An intern returned some props and instead of asking for a check for the refund, asked for a gift card. SO, whenever this happens we have gift cards to cool places! We also had a coupon to Crate & Barrel so we decided to purchase something cute for the living room. Since the couch is beige, I wanted something with color that pops. So, we got a $50 blanket for free! I can't justify paying $50 for a throw blanket, not now in my life, so this worked out great! Needless to say, Elvis LOVES HIS new blanket :)

My mom brought us a comforter this afternoon for the guest bedroom and it looks pretty great in there! I am so excited to have this room somewhat decorated. All of our furniture pieces and decorations came from all different people (me, Bruce, my mom and my boss) but with everything combined, I think the room looks great! We still have to hang stuff on the wall, and put more pictures out, but it's not a bad start! I am SO SICK of moving and unpacking I finally just called it quits this afternoon. There is only so much one can do! Plus I feel like I have inhaled more dust then anyone ever should. I was cleaning everything in sight this weekend but cleaning a house is way different then cleaning an apartment. It takes FOREVER. Ahhh, gotta love growing up!

Elvis turned 2 years old on Thursday! He is getting so old! Here is a fun video of him playing with his favorite toy in the world, SLIPPER! This nasty black slipper came with Elvis when we adopted him. The cutest dog in the world came with a bed and some old toys that his previous owners bought him. I wanted to throw that ratty slipper away when we got it because it was weird to me. I have never had a dog that played with a slipper! Bruce convinced me to keep it because he seemed to enjoy it. It has now become his favorite toy of all and Bruce LOVES to remind me that I wanted to throw slipper away when we first got it. Here is a typical play sesh with slipper. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELVIS!!!

Bruce and I met my boss and her husband at their infamous storage unit and scored BIG TIME today! They have the most beautiful furniture and decorations! While we were busy hanging stuff today I had Bruce also hang these precious 3 mirrors that Margaret gave me. They are so darling I just love them! I'm going to paint them soon, sine they are beige and the walls are kinda beige, maybe like a royal blue, who knows. For now though, they look super cute. Also, my boss gave us a little copper table and we made sort of a vanity out of it. We added a mirror that I already had (that my mom gave me a few years ago) and I think it looks super cute!

We took Elvis to get groomed today. I told them to take more off then last time since it's summer time and so it will last a little longer. He had a 'doggy day at the spa' where they play with him and pamper him all day. He always seems happy when we pick him up (not pissed off that we left him there) and is now POOPED! Here are some cute pics of the new do. He looks very sleepy in these pics. His new favorite chair is the red chair in our living room that used to belong to the Crow family - he's got great taste!

Bruce's parents bought us the coolest plants for the new house! I didn't even realize before but plants really wake a room up! They add life and color and spunk to the downstairs. I've never had indoor plants before, so hopefully between the two of us we can keep them alive. Luckily Bruce, Margaret and big Bruce know a LOT about plants so they picked out some great stuff. Yay for plants! Does that mean I'm getting old that I'm this excited over house plants?

Normally in the mornings, I walk Elvis and then he runs to his toys and plays for a while. This morning he insisted I put him in my lap while I played on my computer. When he insists, he will put his front paws on my calf and look up at me like a little angel from heaven, so of course I put him in my lap. He liked the smell of my southern pecan coffee I guess and decided to LICK the steaming hot cup. He then looked right up at me like, HOW DARE YOU LET ME LICK THAT! Oh well, he's a dog and got over that one fast. I had to take a pic because it was almost like he is reading the news on my computer with me. Too cute.

Happy almost Friday y'all!! SO EXCITED for my family (soon to be family) and friends to come in town to celebrate our engagement!!! How and I supposed to work today?! I'm too excited!!!!!

Bruce and my mom went to Ikea this evening and picked up the chairs we decided on and also got a beautiful mirror for the living room. We were going to get a black and white pattern for the chairs but Ikea was out of that pattern. Instead we got green and I LOVE THE GREEN. So glad we stumbled upon it! I love the mirror too, looks so spency! It was only $100 which is awesome. My sister Kara told me about a website where you can order replacement slip covers for these chairs, which means will be keeping them FOREVER. So fun! This room is turning out great! Bruce hung his diplomas up and we are going to hang mine in there too. His Tulane jersey really matches the room nicely, I think. We are SO LUCKY to have that beautiful built in desk in there. It holds and hides so much! I will post more videos of the rooms once we get them organized. You won't even have to come over, you can see the whole house via virtual tour! Kidding, I can't WAIT to have people over. We are working so hard to get ready for July 10th weekend when all our friends and family will be in town for the engagement party. I am SO EXCITED FOR THAT WEEKEND!

We found some super cute chairs that were out of stock :( We are working on getting those asap because they are the only chairs that we really love, so far. We haven't spent much time on the balcony because its been HOT LAVA outside since we moved here. This morning was breezy and Elvis and I went outside to check it out. He wasn't quite sure what to think of the balcony. He was very weary of peaking his little head over the edge, but once he heard another dog walking by he rushed right over and looked down. I'm so glad the he can only fit his head through and not his entire body, or we would have BIG problems :)

We have done a ton of work on the house but clearly still have a lot to do! It's so fun to play around the new house, thinking of new ways to decorate and make good use of the space. As of now, we don't have a single thing hung on the walls. Well, we do have a giant flat screen TV but nothing artistic or pretty. Working on that. Here are some pics of the downstairs and Bruce's office. We have definitely spent the most time and effort in these two spaces, but have much more to do. My boss gave me a bunch of beautiful furniture and rugs that fit so nicely in our house. It's nice to have some new pieces and some old pieces. Because of my bosses 3 marriages, we have a wide variety of furniture that cost more then we could come close to affording at the moment, and for that i am forever grateful. OUR NEW HOUSE!

Bruce and I have been working so hard moving into the new house, and we still have a ton of work to do! It's much different trying to decorate such a large space, we are both used to cramming everything into a small apartment, ha. We just got internet yesterday so this is the first time I am able to post. I can't find the camera cord to upload all the pics I've taken so I took some with my computer and they are not as good of quality. I will post more once I find that cord!

We are working hard to get the place together before out engagement party that's just around the corner! We are both thrilled to finally be living in our dream house, but now the fun is over and work begins, hahaha. Only half kidding :)

Elvis just LOVES the new house. He runs up the stairs (all 36) like their is GOLD at the top! He has found his favorite spot on the corner of the couch, looking out the window at cars driving by. We took Elvis to a little park after work and he had the best time! We have to kind of run next to him to get him to run a lot, and wear him out. If we don't do that he just sniffs around a lot and doesn't get much exercise. After a while he found this patch of grass that he became obsessed with! He was sniffing it and rubbing his whole body all over it like he just struck gold! Bruce says that dogs do that because a dead animal was there recently. YIKES! Someone is getting a bath tonight! Elvis AND Bruce. Kidding :) The first video is Elvis going crazy on the grass and the second clip is Elvis after we PEELED him away from the spot. He looks quite satisfied, don't you think? So wrong but feels so right!

Elvis at his least favorite park

We went to a park downtown this morning and Elvis didn't really seem to love it. We've been before, when they were still growing grass, and you could only walk on the sidewalk. He didn't really love it the first time but I thought with all the open area grass now, he would run wild. Instead he kinda just looked around and tried to dodge the hot sun. He HATES the direct sun, and will dodge it every chance possible. It must hurt his little tender paws :) It's a beautiful park right downtown and was practically empty. Dallas is trying to pump up their downtown, and it's coming along slowly. Maybe one day it will be cool.

I am so sore from working out with my trainer last night, it hurts to type this. Bruce and I both worked late this evening so we took the night off from working out. After one of my favorite 'to-go' meals - a Whole Foods Salad and Chicken and Shirmp Jambalaya - the three of us chilled out, listened to jazz music and relaxed. Well, Bruce had to work some more, but he looked semi relaxed listening to music. Hmmm, maybe I should be unpacking and decorating more...nahhhhh, I'll wait until the weekend :)

Here are a few pics of the new apartment. I am obviously still moving in, so don't mind the boxes and mess. I'm a VERY neat and clean person, so I'm not used to living with boxes, and bins everywhere. It's much harder to move the older I get. I used to LOVE moving into new places and would have my entire room, decorations and all, set up before I went to bed the first night. Now, with a full time job and full time after work schedule, unpacking is taking a LONG TIME. Once I'm all moved in I'll post some better pics. Or maybe even a VIDEO!

Today has been amazing and super relaxing. Bruce and I took Elvis on a long walk, went to the pool and bought some plants to put on my new balcony. We are trying to relax as much as possible today, and take advantage of the day off. If you know me well, you know relaxing is not my thing, I stink at just relaxing, ha. So, today has been good for me! We were supposed to meet with our trainer this evening but our trainer is sick so he cancelled on us. Its better we didn't because its so super hot outside here. We are going to workout at the apartment complex gym a little and plant my plants the rest of the evening. I'll post a picture of my beautiful flowers when we are done! Loving morning walks

One great thing about moving into a new area, Elvis and I have a new route to walk! I just love the area and scenery we have from living in a new place. It really puts me in a great mood in the mornings! Elvis has already made lots of doggy friends, I can tell he loves the new place too! Though Bruce had an apartment in the same complex, it was way on the other side and walking Elvis was kind of gross at times. The old route was the same route 50 other doggy owners take their dogs, and the one difference between them and me = they don't clean up their dogs poop! I used to have to dodge poop the entire time. FOUL! Here are a few pics from our walk this morning.

I also wanted to mention that tomorrow is our one year anniversary of getting Elvis! One year ago tomorrow, Bruce and I drove to Oakdale to his parents house, picked up Elvis, and drove back to Dallas. Elvis shook the entire car ride, and only wanted to sit in Bruce's lap, even though Bruce was driving! I was like, "Hello pup, you were MY idea, come sit in MY lap". That didn't work, haha. Elvis has changed so much over the year. I will post some pics tomorrow of when we first brought Elvis home. He's a mature little man now!!

Bruce, my mom and I started packing up my apartment yesterday to get ready to move into my new apartment. Elvis was a MESS with anxiety thinking we were going to leave him or something! Every time one of us would leave the apartment to get more boxes or whatever, Elvis would HOWL and CRY for us. I tried to reassure him he was coming too! Today he is wiped out from all that worrying! Time to relax in the sun :)

I got to spend this weekend with my parents and Bruce's parents this weekend and we had such a great time! It's like we were all old friends! I feel very blessed to have such a wonderful mother. I'm also so lucky to be getting a second mother once Bruce and I get married :) Our mom's are very similar, and we all just laughed and laughed last night. I am thankful for my family and my future in-laws. Happy Mother's Day to all the mama's in my life!

New Dog Park!

Bruce and I went to a super cute, fun and clean dog park very close to our new future neighborhood! My friend Kami told me about it - she knew it was in East Dallas but could never remember the exact streets. She told us it was enclosed with a white picket fence and near a bunch of old historical homes that have been turned into businesses. So we found it the other day and went there today with Elvis and it was like the mecca of dog parks! Super clean, not crowded, nice dogs, wonderful dog owners and a beautiful view of the down town skyline. Elvis had a great time but as you may be able to tell, there are no tree's to get shade to catch a breather under, so Elvis kept using Bruce's shadow as shade! Haha, it was so sweet. We will for sure be heading back to this cute little park. We've already made new friends!

This weekend was so great! Bruce and I went to New Orleans for the weekend and stopped by Oakdale to see his parents on our way there and way back. Elvis got to spend the weekend with his grandparents and the newest addition to the family, Presley!! She is so sweet and adorable!! I just fell in love with her. Elvis has never been around a puppy smaller then him, and didn't know what to think of Presley at first. After Elvis accepted the fact that smaller dogs DO exist in the world, I think they really hit it off. We had such a great time in Oakdale and I'm so excited for the Willis clan to visit Dallas soon!

Elvis gets so mad at me every time I give him his heart worm and flea medicine. Even though I give him a delicious treat every time, he still acts like I'm trying to kill him! Afterwards he seriously acts mad at me for a WHILE. He won't lay near me, or give me kisses but is all about Bruce! I'm going to make Bruce give it to him next time so my dog doesn't hate me so much. He won't even let me pet him and only wants to lay on Bruce. Boo, I'm going to go cry in the corner.

Bruce and I spent Easter at my parents house and had the best time! We had a wonderful meal and even our own Easter basket! Getting an Easter basket from your parents never gets old :) Elvis and Odie had a great time playing all day. Elvis did run through the fence at one point and once we all noticed I called for him to come back and he just came trotting back to the backyard. I was sure to let him know that was BAD. Ha, we had a blast either way!

We are all so excited to welcome this precious little princess to the family!!! Bruce's parents got a new puppy on Easter Sunday and we couldn't be happier!! How beautiful is she? I am so excited to meet her in May when the Willis' come to visit us in Dallas. I'm not sure if her name has been decided, but I know the name I'm rooting for :)

HOUSE HUNTING!!!

This has nothing to do with Elvis (though it has to do with his future home) but I'm going to post it anyways! Bruce and I are house hunting tomorrow with a realtor he has found, and I'm SO EXCITED! We have been 'pre hunting' by driving around and looking at locations and surroundings of suggested houses. Since we have bootcamp in the mornings, our evenings have been wide open to drive around Dallas taking notes (and half asleep from waking up at 4:30am). We are hoping to find a townhouse or house before the end of this month to take advantage of the first time home buyers credit. Although I won't be moving into our dream home until NEXT April, I am still just as excited. On that note, some other exciting news, drumroll please.....Bruce and I are getting married ONE YEAR from today!!!! 2010 is really our year, isn't it?!

I really want to post pics and links to houses that we are seeing tomorrow but I also don't want to jinx it. We have found some really great places in our price range, I just hope they look as good in person. I will post our top pics after our search tomorrow.

I'm house sitting for my boss and he has a beautiful home with lots of land. They have 3 dogs who are sweet as can be and Elvis has had a blast with them! They are working on their front gate and so there are holes where the dogs can get out. So although it's nice to let them all run free, I have to keep a close eye on everyone or I will be running down Walnut Hill chasing after dogs! Here are some cute pics. The light haired dog is Sunny, the other one is JT. Elvis was too busy running around like a Tasmanian devil, I couldn't get any pics of him until he was passed out after the fact! The other dog Spike is very old and wanders around a lot. I still need to get a pic of him. Sweet pups!

After doing the Mardi Gras Mambo all morning Elvis was just exhausted!! Although he sleeps next to these pillows every morning while I'm getting ready, I still love to take a picture of him doing so! Too cute to pass up. Happy Fat Tuesday everyone! Eat up! After today it's diet time ;)

It's finally cold enough for Elvis to wear his sweater. This thing really DOES keep him warm. When I take it off he is steamy underneath there! Elvis has not been getting much 'blog love' lately due to all the wedding planing excitement. Poor guy! We still love him to pieces though! Here are my handsome boys now :)

We took Elvis to a new groomer near my apartment this morning and it was less expensive then Petsmart and they did a fab job! I told them to cut his hair down to a half inch. If you say any longer, then he looks the exact same as when he got there! So when we went to pick him up the employees said, "Well you know that today was a BIG hair cut for Elvis, right?". Ha, I think they were trying to tell us it's A LOT shorter, but it's ok because that's what we wanted. I guess they didn't want us to be shocked when we saw him. His legs look EXTRA long with his hair so short. He gets that from his mommy :)

I'm leaving for El Paso in the morning for my Nana's funeral. There have been a lot of emotions flying around about her passing but the thing that keeps me strong is knowing Nana and Daddy Chuck are now together in heaven, complete again. Elvis has been keeping me company as I pack for my trip. I think he is learning what my suitcase means, which is why he gets more needy and clingy right when I start packing to leave. He will have a great time with Bruce this weekend though. He is definitely NOT getting boarded, I am not ready for a repeat of last weekend.

Recovering

Poor Elvis got so sick after being boarded. Though it was never determined exactly what was stuck in his stomach (food or he ingested something foreign while being boarded) this matter has passed and he is starting to get better. He has finally started eating a little wet food and is acting more like himself. He is still acting a little weird, and needing rest but I am so relieved to know we fixed the problem and he is on the way to recovery. Here is the poor pup relaxing tonight. We are giving him some goooood TLC. Since we had to wash all his bedding again (after accidents in his kennel) clean Elvis gets to cuddle up on Bruce's fleece :)

Odd behavior

Since we have brought Elvis back home he is not acting that normal. Poor thing either threw up or it came out the other end while Bruce and I were out running errands. Since we have been home he has thrown up numerous times. The place that boarded him told us its normal for dogs to get sick from being upset in a new environment and eating different food for a few days. He acts fine and then starts shaking and throws up. We are going to stay close by him until he gets passed this.

On top of being sick he is acting very clingy to Bruce and me (and he STINKS from being with all those other dogs!). Poor guy thinks we are going to leave him or something. Bruce and I were sitting on his couch side by side and Elvis jumped in ONE LEAP up on top of Bruce's shoulders! We were both amazed. Then when I called him to get down he LAID DOWN on Bruce's shoulders. He is trying to stay SUPER close. He is on my lap now as I type this actually, ha. Poor thing, I'll keep all the Elvis fans posted on his health.

Home sweet home

Elvis is MORE then relieved to be home after being boarded all weekend. It was Elvis's first time to spend the night at a "pet resort" and I'm not too sure if he loved it. We watched him on live webcam during play time and it's clear Elvis doesn't really LOVE to play with other dogs. He really just did his own thing and followed the staff around begging for attention. He smells AWFUL and I'm giving him a bath asap. I can really tell he is happy to be home now. Currently he is running around trying to hide all his bones in our suitcases...what do you think he is trying to tell us?! Ha, here are a couple cute pics.

Elvis doesn't let me blow dry his head very much so he looks a little scruffy but VERY CUTE. I bought a book on Yorkies last night (per recommendation of Mrs. Willis) and I'm learning so much about them! Though much of it is how to keep your dogs hair long and luxurious (and we keep Elvis with a teddy bear cut) it is still loaded full of interesting tips that I am eager to start using. Happy Saturday everyone!

Bruce and I took a walk down town to grab coffee, check out a new park and look at the Neimann Marcus Holiday display that's up. Elvis was a little nervous around all the buses flying by and city noises. I realized we have never taken him for a walk down town! He did a great job though, and it's good for him. I can remember the first morning I had him in Dallas I took him outside to tinkle and a bus drove by and shook him to the core, poor thing couldn't even go potty! Here are some pics from our walk :)

Elvis kept my mom and Odie very good company while my mom was recovering from foot surgery.
